Young School Community Garden

501 N. Dodgion Street, Independence, MO

The Garden is located on the property of Habitat and Humanity and the Hiram Young Home Ownership Center (HYHOC).  It is a fenced area that contains several raised beds that are rented to community members and a small greenhouse.  Extension Master Gardeners have partnered with Habitat for Humanity to provide community education and support on gardening issues.

Our Extension Master Gardener volunteers have 4 beds to be planted with cold and warm season plants. They can be found in the garden on 1st and 3rd Thursdays of the month 9-11 am, March thru October during the garden season and would be happy to answer gardening questions.  Produce will be donated to those in need thru area non-profits such a Community Services League. Efforts to design and implement passive communication and to hold on-site classes are planned.  A lucite outdoor box on-site is used for fliers on workdays, workshops, special events, etc.  A folding display board is used to provide information at the garden on various outreach events.
