18 Broadway Pantry Garden
18th and Broadway, Kansas City, MO
The 18Broadway Food Pantry Garden is a beautiful, sustainable garden in the middle of downtown Kansas City. The very prominent block of land just south of the Kauffman Center for the Performing Arts has over 100 raised beds and large pots, dedicated originally by DST to model urban sustainability and provide for the hungry thru After the Harvest Community Food Network. The garden’s design demonstrates sustainability through renewable energy, storm water management, and food production.
Our Extension Master Gardener volunteers are one of several other groups, businesses, and organizations that adopt beds and grow vegetables. Extension Master Gardeners manage and maintain twenty raised beds and several huge concrete planters of herbs, fruit and flowers on the upper tier at the northwest corner of this beautiful city block. They work on Wednesday and Saturday mornings during the growing season and are usually interfacing and answering gardening questions from other gardeners and visitors. Â All food grown at 18Broadway Food Pantry Garden is donated to After the Harvest Community Food Network of Kansas City.Â
