Urban Green Dreams

Urban Green Dreams is a MGGKC garden project that works with youth in Kansas City schoolyard and community gardens to teach them how to grow their food.  Through this project, over 900 elementary students (kindergarten to 6th grade) are given the opportunity to garden each year.

Our volunteers work with students to plant and maintain schoolyard gardens, and in some cases orchards, at George Melcher Elementary School, Phillis Wheatley Elementary School, George Washington Carver Elementary School, Martin Luther King Jr. Elementary School, and Hope Leadership Academy and at two community gardens, Benton Community Garden and St. Paul Presbyterian Church Community Garden.   Two early childcare centers and a family childcare home in the Santa Fe neighborhood are encouraged to bring their toddlers and preschoolers to the St. Paul Community Garden to participate in gardening activities.
