Special Events

Throughout the year the Children’s Programs participates in fairs and expo’s at community gardens, farmer’s markets and elementary schools. Fun educational activities are provided for youth to learn about gardening. To contact us regarding participating at your next event, please email: mggkc.child.prog@gmail.com.

Our volunteers currently provide these educational activities:

  • Pollinators: Not Just Bees and Butterflies: Children learn about ways plants are pollinated.
  • Composting Basics: Children learn the different phases of composting, and how organisms work together to make it happen.
  • Plant Parts: Children will learn the parts of a plant and their functions.
  • Is It a Fruit or Vegetable?: Children learn what makes a fruit a fruit and not a vegetable.
  • Flower Power: Children learn the anatomy of a flower
  • What’s in a Seed: Children will learn the anatomy of a seed by dissection and observation, different ways they are disbursed, and why seeds are an important food source
  • Food and Our Five Senses: Children learn about food using their 5 senses (sight, smell, taste, sound, touch). Unavailable at this time
  • What Plants Need to Grow: Children will learn what plants need to grow.
